About the 2012 Doomsdays
Website
The 2012 Doomsday website is all
about the date December 21, 2012. That is the
day the Mayan Long Count calendar ends. After
5,125 years, the current Great Cycle will see the
Earth move through the Galactic Plain, an event that
occurs each cycle.
The Mayans were a brilliant
people, specifically in the astronomy field.
Developing the first advanced language of the
pre-Columbian Mesoamerican era, the Mayan also
utilized mathematics and created their own counting
system. This base-20 counting system enabled them to
make precise calculations of the planets and stars.
Using their advanced language,
mathematics, and astronomy skills, the Maya improved
upon the basic calendar systems of the day,
furthering their ability to count historical events
beyond the standard 52-year cycle. Combining
the Haab' and Tzolkin calendars, they created the
Long Count, a calendar that would show the 5,125
years of the Great Cycle.
In fact, the Mayan believed there
were four Great Cycles, each which ended in the
destruction of the Earth in some manner (flooding,
fire, etc.). This is shown in the Mayan
Creation Myth, coming from their "bible" - the Popol
Vuh. They believed they were living in the 5th
cycle of 5,125 years. This is the same cycle
in which humans are presently living - a cycle which
began in the year 3114 BCE, and ends on December 21,
2012.
Much has been discovered over the
past 200 years, revealing how the Maya lived and
their cultural practices and beliefs. One
thing is for certain, each time a cycle of time
ended - whether it be the the 52-year Sacred Tzolkin
Calendar Round, or the 365-day Haab' calendar with
it's 5 dreadful "nameless" days - the Mayan always
placed great significance on those days. The
more significant the end date, the more deadly the
events (such as sacrifices) that were employed to
root off evil from the underworld. Human
offerings and various other events were the best way to ensure continuity
into the next cycle.
This website delivers the
pre-Columbian Maya, their beliefs, their culture,
and their calendars. You will gain an
understanding of the significance of
sacrificially-based dates within their calendars,
and why the date December 21, 2012 is so important
to mankind. There are also plenty of articles
about the destructive forces that are potentially
inevitable on that date, as well as some insight
into why nothing may happen at all.
